eulex/vetevendosje/billboards

Recently, new billboard-posters (poorly done) flourished around the city, applauding the work Eulex has been doing for the past couple of months. As expected, Vetevendosje were quick to react and skew the billboard-posters with their (poorly done) graffiti/spray. But what happened was astonishing: Eulex printed billboards with vetevendosje/graffiti style words, making it look like Vetevendosje did it. Of course, Unmik and Vetevendosje have a history of such type of communication: Vetevendosje paints the wall (surrounding the main Eulex compound) with giant letters accusing UNMIK (previous administrators) // UNMIK re-paints the wall and invites children to draw nice things about it, so in effect they try to create a barrier for Vetevendosje with drawings that were made by these young children. Eulex and Vetevendosje continue this cat/mouse game of obscuring the communicated message, acting against each other - which is totally fine and exciting and fun. Here's what happened now:

Eulex-sponsored billboard-poster with Vetevendosje's graffiti mark on it // message obscured.

Contact#1: Eulex tries to use Vetevendosjes billboard-poster trademark, and at the same time, to block Vetevendosje from ruining the posters with their own messages.

Contact#2: Vetevendosje re-states it's message.

Although, I think that Vetevendosje should have been smarter and at least used another spray-paint color (green, black, blue), and not use the same color as the one written. {update}: vetevendosje seems to be tired and bored of this, and just cut to the chase: huge "X" mark, bold/black, across billboard-posters in city centers, completely ruining the Eulex ones. Excited.

Roni te na.

Last night was the 2nd time Ron played some good music at TE NA, the cozy wine bar. He started this thing of sharing/playing songs that he likes to a cafe-like crowd, which turns out to be well-receptive of the music he plays, encouraging him to play another night at the wine bar. But that's not the point anyway. It's also the second time that I've missed the event, but probably Ron's will be there again so that we have good times, which I think is a good idea.

1927-2009

was not quite familiar with this building, yet still cannot cope how can this happen to such a historic building that used to beautify our central city landscape. It was build during the Austro-Hungarian empire, in 1927, combining the Neo-Baroqu and Art Neoveau styles (that's what I've read). During the Second World War, it was named Hotel Scanderbeg, later being renamed to Hotel Union. This was no accident, considering that the municipality wanted to take down the building - because it stood as a reminder of the "old repressive times".

so sad we let this happen.

2ND DAY.
my legs are becoming un-bendable and the knee has almost lost it's flex. Yesterday started circling around a Discipline and Doctrine Training Academy, the only improvised running course nearest to my home. The sun's still strong at 6pm, and it's only at 7pm that all the small creatures from the grass that start to hover/fly around.

i want to put my legs to sleep now.

FIELD TRIP.
Last Saturday, friends from our office gathered and we went for a field-trip to Kosova's busiest towns. I rarely get to see other towns, even though they're at max. 2hours away by car. The towns were decent, some bustling with people on unpaved roads and others that resembled one of the western ghost towns, but with more light and concrete. The part that I really enjoyed was the road from to Prizren, because we went thru another route (for Prevalle) which I can't remember I have ever taken. The scenery was breathtaking, but breathgiving as well, with all of its pure oxygenated air lying around, being picked up by scattered cattle. The other fascinating thing were the three wind-turbines being constructed on top of Golesh hill. I read it a couple of days ago, but when I saw them it was amazing. Of course, a hefty in-van moving debate with some of my friends followed: nuclear vs. wind/other.

This trip made me want to visit such places even more, because there really are nice places to go and see. But those wind-turbines, so nice to see them appear here as well.

Stolen.
Tonight, someone broke into my uncle's vehicle and stole his laptop, amongst other things. I was depressed all day when I heard the news. All of his lectures, work, and other valuable documents are gone. Hope he can get at least some of them back.

eh.

Skopje: Here you go, officer.
Saturday is always busy for custom's slackers/officials at the kosovo-fyrom border, but this one was exceptionally long (1.2hours). Once we were in Skopje, we decided to take another road to the city center, and we accidentally missed getting in this huge row of cars waiting on the traffic lights - we simply passed them all, and eluise was the first car in that awful row. Not to be bothered by this, we simply went ahead and only after 10min we found out that we've been chased for 2.5km by the police _ that's what they told us when the orderd us to pull over. "300 euros for illegal passing and not waiting in line, I'll hold your passport and you go pay the fine" - the cop said. I must admit that I was scared and felt that the day was ruined. Being desperate, I reverted what I've heard people do: invite the nice police officers for coffee (one of them told me in macedonian: "Put the it in the passport, go to your car, come back, and hand us the passport" - by it, he meant "money"). I complied, and felt weird at the same time, but felt relieved and hungry after that. It tought me a lesson or two.

The city was wonderful, and we walked around the city center. 02:39am, and still the crazy mix of michael jackson was super-loud from the cafe a couple of flats below our room, but it was fine i guess.

On sunday we saw members of the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra, and was sure that they were here to practice, but I asked Visar - a good friend of ours - why did they to Skopje. "We do not have specific insturments or players for those, so we come here isntead of asking them to come back to us" - was his reply. Fair enough. Just driving around Skopje, we found ourselves in the City Park, walked around, saw lots of people, old people and baby people.

Last night was horrible. I thought he was dead.
Waiting in my car to make a left turn, I saw these two cars just past me at incredible speed.I've never thought that the human body would take such incredible shapes, almost animated. Sadly, this was the case when one of the speeding cars hit an old man and then spun to take down a street light. The old woman was screaming and throwing her hands in disbelief. The elderly couple were crossing the street when one of the cars hit the old man. They could have been returning from a simple walk out on the neighborhood, or from some friends. The driver of the car was visibly young, sporting a orange stripped t-shirt, and now was walking around in shock as to what he did in that split-second. Shocked and in disbelief at what happened, I called the police and they seemed to have responded timely. This was on my way to pick Nita and go see a play. I did not know that the play was an actual adaptation of Stephen King's "Misery". Blood, gore, screams, and violent movements made it even worse, and could not stop thinking about the disfigured old man lying on the street, and then being put in a car and driven to the hospital. He's reported to be in critical-condition, along with the driver of the car.

Probably the most shocking moment of my life.
